The Secret Side of Sarasota’s Siesta Key That Most Tourists Miss
Most visitors know Sarasota and Siesta Key for its world-famous white sand and bustling main beach....but did you know there’s a quieter, more peaceful side just waiting to be explored?

Start Your Day at Turtle Beach Park
Tucked away on the southern end of Siesta Key, Turtle Beach Park is the perfect low-key launch point for a calm, crowd-free morning. Here’s why we love it:
Free parking
Shaded playground (perfect for little ones!)
Clean restrooms
Easy beach access
A public boat and kayak launch just steps from the sand
Unlike the busy main beach, Turtle Beach tends to be peaceful and uncrowded...even on weekends. It’s ideal for families who want to slow down and soak up the natural beauty of Siesta Key without the crowds.
Paddle with Ultimate Kayak SRQ
From Turtle Beach, you can rent kayaks or join a guided tour with the friendly, knowledgeable team at Ultimate Kayak SRQ. We launched our own kayaks directly from the shoreline and within minutes—manatees! They came right up to our kayaks! Please note that it is illegal to touch manatees, so we enjoyed just watching them!

Our calm paddle took us through the mangrove-lined waters of Blind Pass Lagoon, where birds soared overhead and the only sounds were our paddles in the water. It’s one of the best places to kayak in Siesta Key if you’re traveling with kids...gentle waters, no waves, and plenty to see.
A Picnic at Midnight Pass Sandbar
The highlight of our trip? Paddling all the way to Midnight Pass, which recently reopened and feels like a secret slice of paradise. We pulled our kayaks onto a sandy shore and had a picnic lunch right on the sandbar, surrounded by calm, clear water.
It was quiet. It was peaceful. And so beautiful!
Then, we were so surprised and delighted to see an Ice Cream Boat pull up! Just like an Ice Cream Truck- but on the water. So exciting.
