We recently sailed on an MSC cruise with our kids… and I had mixed expectations going in.
Some things were genuinely great for families.Others felt just okay.
So if you’re wondering whether MSC is actually a good cruise line for kids, here’s our honest breakdown- based on what we actually used as a family.
⭐ Kids Club — ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
The Kids Club was… fine.

It wasn’t a standout experience for us, and we only brought our kids once for drop-off. That said, we did participate in several of the family activities run by the Kids Club staff...and this is where they really shine.
The staff are incredible. So energetic, so warm, and genuinely engaged with the kids. You can tell they actually care, which goes a long way.
If your kids love structured programming, you may get more out of this than we did. For us, it just didn’t become a go-to.
⭐ Buffet — ★★★★☆ (4/5)
We ended up eating at the buffet for most meals — because… kids.
And truly- it worked really well for our family.
One of the biggest wins is that there’s always something open. You can pop in for a quick snack or sit down for a full meal without needing a reservation or long wait.
A few highlights:
The Indian food was surprisingly amazing
A really solid salad bar + healthy options (grilled chicken, salmon, etc.)
Plenty of easy kid-friendly foods
And yes...the soft serve was a daily staple
Also worth noting: the staff here were incredibly hardworking. The food was constantly being refreshed, and the bussers kept everything moving quickly despite the crowds.
⭐ Kid Pool Area — ★★★★☆ (4/5)
This is one of the most visually fun parts of the ship.
The climbing structures above the pool are super cool- it feels playful and immersive in a way kids immediately gravitate toward.
But here’s the reality:It’s smaller than it looks… and it gets very crowded.
At peak times, it was packed to the point where our kids felt a little overwhelmed by the noise and activity.
That said, it’s still a great feature- and one big upside is that it’s a designated kid space, so you don’t feel like you’re disrupting anyone if your kids are being loud, splashy, or wild.
⭐ Slides — ★★★★☆ (4/5)
The slides are genuinely fun and really well done.
They’re colorful, playful, and exciting enough that older kids (and even adults) can enjoy them too.

BUT - and this is important- MSC is very strict on height and age requirements.
Our 4-year-old (almost 5) wasn’t allowed to ride, which was a disappointment. So if you’re traveling with younger kids, definitely check the requirements ahead of time to avoid surprises.
⭐ Play Areas — ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
The indoor play options were… just okay.
There are basics like:
Foosball
Ping pong

But overall, it felt a bit limited- especially when the weather wasn’t great and everyone was forced inside.
We ran into:
Lines for ping pong
Not enough variety for the number of kids onboard
There is also an arcade, but it’s expensive, and those costs add up quickly.
And many of the more unique experiences - like the 4D cinema or Formula Racer simulators- weren’t a fit for our kids’ ages.
Final Thoughts: Is MSC Good for Kids?
Yes — but with some caveats.
MSC offers a lot for families:
Dedicated kid spaces
Flexible dining
Fun, high-energy environments
But it’s not the most seamless or over-the-top “kid-centric” cruise experience out there.
For us, it landed somewhere in the middle:
Enough to keep our kids happy
But not everything felt exceptional
If You’re Deciding…
MSC can be a great option if you:
Want a more flexible, casual experience
Don’t need constant structured kids programming
Are okay navigating some crowds and limitations
If your kids thrive on highly immersive kids clubs or tons of indoor play options, you might find it a bit lacking.
